Painting by Peter Paul Rubens, circa 1635. From The Met Collection. Deer can be seen running through the woods at daybreak, chased by hunters and their hounds. I'm not crazy about the hunters but this painting is absolutely stunning. The light through the trees and the detail in the forest is outstanding. Hard to imagine this was painted over 400 years ago! You can barely see the hunter. I believe he is in the red coat just to the left of the tree trunk in the center of the painting.
